FLAT STEEL
Abul Khair Group entered in Flat Steel manufacturing during 1993 and expanded subsequently with growing market demand. Abul Khair Steel products include Corrugated Iron Sheet (CI Sheet), Galvanized Plain Sheet (GP Sheet) and Cold Rolled Coil (CR Coil). Its steel manufacturing complex has a combined capacity of producing 640,000 MT of flat steel p.a. with the introduction of new galvalume products in Bangladesh. Its steel products are extensively used in home building and in industry. In galvanized steel Cow brand of Abul Khair Steel is the market leader for over 20 years. Abul Khair Steel has leading brands also in colour coated steel and in aluminum coated steel. Its galvanized and colour coated products are exported in over 34 countries.
LONG STEEL
Abul Khair Steel Melting Ltd’s rolling mill was commissioned in 2009 which introduced advanced TMT technology of steel making in Bangladesh market. As a backward linkage EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) facility was added in 2015 for making 100% refined steel billet which are used to produce world class TMT bar. The integrated long steel making plant comprises of country’s first Electric Arc Furnace refining facility and the single largest fully automated rolling mill with annual capacity of 1.4 million ton. Abul Khair Steel currently produces 100% EAF refined steel billets and AKS TMT 500W & 550W construction steel bar in Bangladesh. In order to refine steel, AKS complex has the country’s largest oxygen plant. With a view to preserve ground water, AKS plant harvests rain water collected in its own dam. It is also equipped with the advanced fume treatment facility to neutralize any possible environmental impact.
CEMENT
Shah cement was launched in 2002 and the brand became market leader in the very first year. It has further strengthened its leadership over the years. Shah Cement Industries Ltd. is the largest cement producing plant in Bangladesh with current annual capacity of 10 million metric ton. The facility has undergone major expansion in 2018 when 4 million ton of new capacity was added to meet the growing cement demand. The new plant was supplied by FLSmidth of Denmark which is the first of its kind and the single largest Vertical Roller Mill (VRM) in the world for cement manufacturing. This fact was recently recognized by Guinness World Records. Its own bagging plant is one of the largest in this region capable of producing 3 lac bags per day powered by Hi-tech Starlinger machinery from Austria. Shah Cement is also a major player in Ready-Mix Concrete market.
TOBACCO
AKG started its journey in 1953 with the manufacturing of hand-made cigarettes (locally called ‘Bidi’). Since then, it has steadily increased its production capacity. As of today, AKG can produce 4 billion hand-made sticks and 30 billion cigarettes per annum. The Group has integrated its operation through setting up a tobacco processing unit in 2004 and matchbox manufacturing facility in 2008.
CONSUMER GOODS
In Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) AKG has strong portfolio in milk powder, condensed milk and in packaged tea category. It entered the consumer goods business with milk category in 1994 and other businesses were added subsequently. Marks Full Cream Milk Powder is the dominant leader in powdered milk market. Seylon Tea and Starship Condensed Milk are amongst the leading brands in respective categories. Its consumer goods business also includes sizeable non-carbonated Juice, Snacks and Candy business. The group also has a growing Baby Food business.
CERAMICS AND MARBLE BUSINESS
Abul Khair Group entered in ceramics and marble business through acquisitions in 2011. Since acquisition AKG has invested significantly into ceramics manufacturing capacity and quality upgradation in collaboration with global ceramic giant Sacmi of Italy. The Italian design inspired brand Stella is amongst the leading ceramic brand in the country. The company also has import based marble and granite marketing business which are cut and polished locally.
