Abul Khair Tobacco is the most trusted name in the tobacco industry of Bangladesh. We have been in the industry since 1953 and have been exporting the best quality tobacco in many countries of the world. Tobacco was the mother business of Abul Khair Group. The tobacco division is divided into two parts. One is tobacco growing & processing for domestic use & export in various countries and the other is cigarette manufacturing & selling to the domestic market.

In 1998 Abul Khair Tobacco started its cigarette manufacturing and selling business. At domestic market Abul Khair tobacco is in a leading position in low segment cigarette brand.

How we operate

We are a national company with manufacturing and sales facilities throughout the Bangladesh.

Wherever we manufacture, we apply the same exacting standards to ensure the best quality in low & mid segment that smokers of our brands have come to expect.
Currently we are distributing our brands to almost 8 lac outlet. We have a good reputation as we have sufficient vehicle and our manpower is skilled and dedicated enough.

Our day-to-day operations, however, involve more than just making cigarettes; they are also about the way we do business and interact with the world outside our offices, both locally and globally.

In every district in Bangladesh where our cigarettes are sold, we are guided by the same basic principles.
One of our principal goals is to be a socially responsible company. Because of this, we are passionate about our social performance:

• We have adopted policies and implemented programs to consistently reduce our environmental impact, using fewer natural resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions with tree planning program, and producing less waste.
• We work with growers and suppliers to promote sustainable tobacco farming.
• We work with suppliers, interest groups, and governments to address the problems of child labor and other abuses in labor markets related to our supply chain.
• We contribute to improving our local communities through charitable giving, volunteer activities, and support of a wide network of non-profit organizations.

Our Charitable giving program

Abul Khair Tobacco Company supports charitable giving programs that improve living conditions in places our employees reside and work, as well as in the farming communities where we source our tobacco.

We have identified some areas of giving that we focus on education, planning, tree plantation, supply pure drinking water. These areas parallel many of the UN Millennium Development Goals, and we have chosen to focus on them because they are among the most critical issues affecting the countries where we operate.

60 Years of AKT
Abul Khair’s 1953 opening of a handmade tobacco product named 42-No Abul bidi.

1998
Abul Khair introduced their ready-made cigarettes and started selling tobacco.

2009
Abul Khair becomes nationally number one selling cigarette. Volume reaches 1.00 billion

2012
National cigarette sales reach 2.00 billion. Second largest company in Bangladesh in terms of volume.

Cigarette Brand

It is not our business to encouraging people to start smoking or to smoke more, but those who are smoking we highlight them that our Brands are better than competitors.

Rally verve

Launched in 25th april, 2010, Rally verve is our supreme brand; it is Medium segment’s brand. Presently we hold 10% segment share of this segment.

MARISE Special Blend

Launched in 3rd july, 2006, MARISE Special Blend is highest selling brand of tobacco industry in Bangladesh; it is Low segment’s brand. Presently we hold 50% segment share of this segment.

MARISE White
Launched in 2009, MARISE white is Low segment’s brand it is new brand of MARISE family.

Super kings White

Launched in 2006, Super Kings white is also a popular brand of tobacco industry in Bangladesh; it is Low segment’s brand.

Sun Moon

Launched in 1998, it is our first cigarette brand. Sun Moon is very popular brand of tobacco industry in Bangladesh; it is Low segment’s brand. Presently we have a good segment share of this segment.

Handmade Brand

Special Abul Bidi & 42 No Abul Bidi

42 No Bidi launched in 1953, which was the first business of the Group. Now we have another brand of Bidi (Hand made rolled Tobacco Smoking Product) which is Special Abul Bidi. Presently we have 7% market share of this industry.

 

Our Tobacco

History of Tobacco

In Bangladesh flue cured tobacco growing was started from 1968 on experimental basis in Kushtia district in North West part of Bangladesh. After 6 years of extensive field work & grower’s participation Bangladesh achieved self sufficiency of tobacco in terms of Volume. Subsequently tobacco growing extended to the other areas in Bangladesh. Now there are four major tobacco growing areas in Bangladesh, these are Kushtia, Chittagong, Rangpur and Manikgonj.

Leaf Operations
Abul Khair Leaf operations activities are spread in all the leaf growing areas of the Bangladesh. We have a contractual farmer base for tobacco cultivation of about 20,000 farmers, growing tobacco in about 45,000 acres & produce 25 million kg’s of tobacco. Our field force strength is about 250 people. We have a capacity of warehouse about 35 million kg’s of tobacco in the various locations.

R&D

Research & Development

Abul Khair Tobacco’s operation is supported by a modern laboratory and research development center.

The research development center is well equipped with state of art equipment like Skalar continuous flow analyzer for quick moisture balances the measurement of Nicotine, Sugar, Chloride and moisture.

We are among the few cigarette manufactures in Bangladesh who acquired the latest Multi-Port Smoking machine.

We also acquired Quantum – Plus quality equipment for testing the cigarette Weight, Size, Density profile, Moisture & Pressure drop.

We have the QTM MACHINE for monitoring the cigarette filter.

For GLT we acquired Cardwell Stem tester, Ro-top testing Sieve Shaker, Brabender Ovens, Cardwell Size tester.

Quality Control

 Abul Khair’s newly built GLT plant is supported by a modern laboratory . Laboratory Is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipments like Skalar Continuous Flow Analyser, Quick moisture balance for measurements of Nicotine, Sugars, Chloride and moisture. Abul Khair’s quality system ensures thorough checks on all finished products for their particle distribution, moisture and chemistry are determined by equipments of international standard with the help of a team of trained personnel. Consistent International quality is our aim.

Cardwell Stem tester: is used to determine the total stem content in lamina. The Cardwell Stem tester is equipped with basket 3/4″‘ discs to set up the standard of the tower’s air flow. (coresta method). Pilot Tube Dwyer n¡ 400 air velocity meter.

Ro-tap testing Sieve Shaker (model B): is used to determine the objectionable stem content in lamina.

Cardwell Size tester: consist of a band feed, four sieving trays and a line collecting pan. For testing sizes of tobacco strips (degradation).

Brabender Ovens: are used for individual tests or series of tests to determine the moisture percentage of tobacco. The Brabender method is called quick check.

Hearson Oven: is used for series of tests to determine the final moisture percentage of the tobacco.

Precision Oven: is used for series of tests to determine the final moisture percentage of the tobacco.

Willey Mills: are used to grind tobacco for moisture test.

Besides meeting the needs of local markets, we have been exporting tobacco leaves to many countries of the world. We are renowned for producing the best quality of tobacco in Asia. We have a vast range of product to meet the needs of our existing and potential buyers all around the world. Our products are widely exported in many countries of the eastern and western world.

Traditional Bangladeshi varient air cured Tobaco, Havy Bodied, brown to dark brown coor, strong smoke characteristics, high nicotie 3-4.5%, Low sugar 1-2%. Used in Biri.

Products : Talim

 

Traditional Bangladeshi variety air cured tobacco. Heavy Bodied, brown to dark brown in colour, strong smoke characteristics, high nicotine 3-4.5%, Low sugar 1-2%. Used in Biri.

Products : Motihari

 

This is also another Bangladeshi native variety of air cured tobacco, heavy body, round shape leaf, brown to dark colour high nicotine tobacco (3-5% nicotine) and low sugar (1-2%). This variety is used for Biri and also used as chewing tobacco.

Abul Khair Tobacco is one of the largest companies in Bangladesh. We are also the one of the largest private sector tax payer in Bangladesh. We are contributing to economic, social and human resource development.

Tobacco Taxation

Tobacco products are the most heavily taxed consumer goods in Bangladesh. Governments use tobacco taxes to achieve multiple objectives. Excise taxes and other fiscal measures are used by governments to generate revenue.
